First Grade – report by Colin Scully
There were 5 players unavailable for our first round match (3 were
injured and 2 had carry over suspensions from the State Cup).
This meant that we relied on some Reserve Grade players being in the
starting line up and some after playing a full game in Reserves were on the
bench for First Grade. We would like to thank Cameron Jones, Paul Malith,
Jordan Andrews James Mangae and Marual Mangar for their contribution and
commitment to Storm.
It must be said that the Woopi squad was very depleted from the Woopi we
have played in the past few years.
Having said that it was important to capitalise on their weakness and
Storm did just that. We passed the ball quickly, kept the ball on the deck,
created many gaps and played in formation. By half time the score was 5 nil:
Jamie Kennedy 12th min, Mark Ifrah 15th, Gum
Mayak 32nd, Grant Scully 38th and Cameron Jones who
scored his first First Grade goal 43rd.
In the second half Storm squandered so many chances. The final score
should have been 20 nil if we simply passed the ball into open space for
unmarked players to score rather than going for he “big” shot. Nevertheless, it
was good to see players taking the shots. 2nd half goals scored
by Grant Scully 30th min and Jamie Kennedy 43rd.
Our defence was spot on as was the midfield and
most pleasing was that we did not let in any goals.

Man of the Match went to Grant Scully.
Our next match is scheduled for Sunday 6th April
- Storm play Urunga at Urunga.
Reserve Grade kicks off at 12pm and First Grade at 2pm – hope to see a
lot of Storm supporters there as we need to win these games.
