NORTHERN STORM - MATCH REPORTS
Senior Mens
Round 3 – against Coffs United
First Grade – report by Colin Scully
The first half was a solid
display from both teams. However we cannot give away early cheap goals – Coffs
scored in the 13th min of the first half and the score remained 1
nil until the break.
The second half start was a
disaster for Storm as Coffs scored in the 3rd minute of play and the
Storm players were never in the game after that goal and Coffs went on to score
another 4 in the half. Unfortunately a young linesperson was appointed to
this Senior Mens game and was very
inexperienced. We believe that 3 goals were scored that were clearly offside.
Having said that, our lads must learn to play to the whistle and adjust their
game accordingly ie fall back and sweep.
The match can be summarised as
follows:
· The opposition had far too much room to move;
· We were not “in their faces” and we did not man mark;
· There were far too many unnecessary free kicks given to the opposition which showed a lack of discipline from our lads;
· We were caught out by the long ball far too often; and
· We did not cover their simple crossing game.
Time to reflect on this
performance and prepare for our mid week catch up game against Urunga.
