Womens Reserves
Round 12
28/6 vs Boambee
This was scheduled to be a difficult assignment against the undefeated
Boambee. To make things harder we had a couple of regular players out of
action.
We started very well, contesting the loose ball strongly and putting
together some great passing movements through midfield. However Boambee kept
playing to their strengths on the wings and as the first half wore on we began
to struggle a little to keep them under control. We stuck to our game plan and
made the opposition work really hard to get shots on goal, however a couple of
missed tackles saw Boambee get 2 goals up on us by half time. Despite the
scoreline we were playing quite well and could have been in the game had we
scored next.
That was not to be with Boambee picking up another goal just after half
time, and we dropped our heads a little at 3-0 down. 3 more goals in that half
led to a 6-0 result, not really what we wanted. We still have plenty to take
out of this game, as teams like Boambee & Urunga who have strong 1st
division teams continue to stack their Reserve grade sides with 1sts players. I
felt we really contested the game for the first 45 minutes but we need to
maintain this for a full 90 in future.
Great work from Jess at the back with some good controlled defence. The
team all worked really hard in this game and the result was not a reflection of
the effort the girls put in.
